Why do teachers ignore it when kids call each other names or pick on others? For teachers, or anyone who knows, I see time and again kids in school picking on the 'ugly' or the 'poor' kid with no interference from teachers or staff, particular in 4th and 5th graders. Is there some sort of teaching that says teachers are not to interfere when kids are interacting this way? These picked on kids come home, sometimes, in tears. What do you say?
Teachers what do you do when kids start misbeahving and preventing others to learn? Teachers what do you do when kids start misbeahving and preventing others to learn? I suggest 1 and 2 time warning, and then send outside besides the door for around 5 min(and take off points). cause in math class,a few kids there is hyper, and hte teachers get mad at them alot.and yells at the class (when half of us arent doing anything) and now gives us double homework. and we only had 5 minutes of learning time today.but u gotta admit its kinda enteraining... so what do you guys do?
What kinds of teachers should I get my reccomendations for college from? I am going to apply to a few schools and 2 require a letter of reccomendation. If I get two for one school can I have a teacher send the same two for another school or no? Also, can I get a teacher from freshman year to do it? All of the nice teachers I had were from freshamn or sophomore year so would that work? How would I ask them to write me a reccomendation?
What are some reasons for switching teachers? I'll be in an Algebra class (I'm already bad at math) where the teacher is known for having over half her class fail. It's not that she's mean, she just can't teach. Even the other Algebra teachers will tutor you if they know you have her as a teacher. What can I list as a reason for switching teachers? They might think I just want to get in a class with my friends. I'm in high school--I'll be a junior this year.
How are teachers being rated based on their performance? Every semester, we, head teachers are scheduling observation of classes in all subject areas. One is announce and the other one is an announce. We had a form in rating them based on the criteria and the observation we had for them. The problem is, although the observation is announce and they know already the criteria, they still don't follow the sequence of discussing the lesson. The result always is that there are good points and suggestions as well. We know nobody is perfect especially during this time eventhough teachers are old timer they still get nervous. Could this be the only means on rating them?
How much is the basic pay for graduate teachers in your country? In my country there a teachers who graduated with a diploma from teachers' training colleges and those who graduated from university with a bachelor's degree. The latter's pay is higher than the former. There has been a debate on teachers' salary since we think it is too low. Some members of the public do not respect our job mostly because we don't earn that much. I quote a student back in the late 90's.."I don't want to be a teacher because teachers have to do such a tedious job and yet get very little pay" I forgave her.She was only 13.
How old are most teachers when they first start teaching? I will be 22 when I graduate and start teaching...I will turn 23 shortly after i start teaching. Anyway, will there be alot of younger teachers my age there? Im asking because in high school I just dont remember any young teacher...the youngest teacher I had was in her early 30's?
Can substitute teachers make as much money as a full time teacher? My friend is a new teacher (right out of college) and has had trouble finding a full time teaching job for elementary school. She is thinking of becoming a substitute teacher but doesn't know if it would pay the bills. Can substitute teachers make as much money as a full time teacher? If not then what else could she do?
How much training do teachers have undertake to be a teacher? How long do you have to train for (in England) to be a: a) Primary School Teacher b) Secondary School English Teacher c) Secondary School Maths Teacher d) Secondary School History Teacher Also, how do you get to be headteacher in a school, is it just through promotions etc? And, how much do secondary school teachers get paid and headteachers?
What type of secondary teachers work the most hours? On the secondary level, I think that English teachers work the most hours (due to all of the essays and papers that they have to grade) versus any other type of public secondary school teacher. Who agrees? What type of teacher works the least amount of hours? Why don't they pay English teachers more than say, a P.E. teacher? I am talking about hours outside of contract hours that are NOT paid. I am not talking about teachers who take up extracurricular activities like coaching or clubs because most of those activities provide the teacher a stipend.
Are teachers allowed to quit during the school year? I am a currently employed as a teacher in a public school district. I can never remember teachers leaving in the middle of the year. Are we allowed to do so (I imagine we would have to be). If so, does anyone know the proper steps to take? Do I give two weeks notice, as in other jobs? Is there someone I should contact to ask the specifics? If anyone is a teacher who has quit or thought about quitting during a school year, please advise.
Do all teachers start in the same place on the pay-ladder? I know that teachers follow some sort of salary ladder where they are given increases in salary at given stages. But do a gym teacher and math teacher start in the same place? Anyone know what a theatre teacher would make? Does a gym teacher and math teacher start at the same salary? Thank you to my first responder. Depending on where you are located, a teacher can make a good salary. My friend is making 80,000 a year teaching high school. What are you making?
What do teachers do when they get pregnant? I was wondering if a teacher would have to take a year off to have her baby if she failed to plan it to happen during the summer. Our school system doesn't have maturnity leave for teachers and I was just wondering (I want to have kids and I have trouble getting pregnant) what teachers do. If you sign a contract to teach for a year and don't sign for the next year so you can have a baby, will you still have a job? It would work out if I could take off a year, but then again, will I be able to work at the same place.
How do benefits work for American teachers? I understand teachers aren't paid through the summer. But, as a possible future secondery school teacher, how do benefit premiums work? Do I pay my benefit premiums for the whole summer the last paycheck before summer?
How should students’ violence versus the teachers be reduced in Swedish schools? Violence and threats are increasing in the Swedish school system. New figures shows 4.8 percent of the teachers in primary- and high school are subjected to violence at their workplace, 6 percent has be threatened by violence, and an as many as 12.7 percent consider themselves subjected to harassment. One in five teachers feels uneasy leaving for work in the morning.
Why do the teachers at my tech school have no personality? K-12, most of the teachers I had, had personality, with the exception of some teachers. And I know quite a few college teachers and professors, and they have personality. But the teachers, at least most of them have little to no personality. Are most tech schools like this? And is there a logical explaination?
What is the most important thing that students expect from their teachers? Teachers are often ineffective because they do not understand their students. When teachers and students operate at different frequencies, both get frustrated and unproductivity sets in. Good teachers know what students expect and work sincerely to fulfill students' needs. They deliberately engage in activities that would build and strengthen their students' potential. However, many times, communication between them are closed and teachers have no way of knowing what students 'really' expect from them. An open communication will help prevent this ill-practice at schools.
What do elementary school teachers have to do at the end of the school day? I'm curious about this because I want to teach elementary and even with all the fieldwork and student teaching I've done in college I still wonder if at the end of the day when all the kids have gone home, is that the end of the day for the teachers as well? Or does the principal expect you to volunteer for after school programs, do you stay in your room and do lesson planning?
How do I get teachers to write my college letters of reccommendation? I am a rising senior and I will soon be applying to some schools. I have some teachers in mind for my recs, and I know they'd be willing to write them, but how do I get them? Do I need to get a form from each college, or from the common app website or something? Do I just tell them and they get a form from somewhere else?
Why do so many people have such a false impression about teachers? I always hear people complaining about how teachers only work 8am-2pm and get 3 months off for summer, therefore they are overpaid and the Unions are just evil organizations that don't teach children anything. I don't know about you, but I believe that developing lesson plans, preparing for parent teacher conferences, actual parent teacher meetings, staff development days, field trips and planning, plus summer school, goes WAY beyond the 8am-2pm myth. Why do people jump to conclusions so quickly? In some ways, I think teachers work harder than CEOs and lawyers but are compensated WAY less.
How much do english teachers get paid naturally? I have always wanted to become a teacher and now I have decided that I want to become an english teacher. Although, my father said that teachers don't get paid that much money. Seriously, we all want money, but how much money do teachers usually get?
Is anyone else uncomfortable about what teachers are wearing these days? My child's Pre-K, K, and now 1st grade teachers wear clothes I find to be inappropriate. Cleavage all hanging out, tight pants, flip flops, etc. In my day teachers wore long skirts and blouses. Teachers today look like 16 year old girls headed to the mall. Our schools here have a stringent student uniform policy, but seem to be overlooking the teachers' dress code. Has anyone else noticed this? Has anyone confronted a teacher on this matter?
How many people think that teachers should be paid more money? I mean in France for example, everyone works 4 days a week, and teachers are more respected and get higher pay then teachers in the USA. But in the USA, there is a high turnover rate for teachers and many teachers experience a burnout after a few years on the job, because of all the stress and not enough income.
How do I get my teachers to realise that music helps me concentrate? I always get sidetracked in my own mind when I don't have music on. Everytime I'm in class I try to concentrate, but I end up listening into other people's conversations and then forget about what I'm doing. How can I convince my teachers that I need it in order to do my work and pass?
Teachers, what can I do to increase my effectiveness in volunteering as a science resource person? I would appreciate helpful suggestions. For the second year I will be responding to a request to help a 4th grade teacher and a 7th grade teacher (not the teachers I helped last year) by bringing to their classrooms weekly one-hour demonstrations and experiments, principally in the physical sciences. I already know eighty percent of the students. I will do the obvious: read the textbooks, encourage the teachers to choose my topics, and arrive properly prepared with a lesson plan and student worksheets or handouts. What am I overlooking? What would worry you if I were coming to your class instead of theirs?
What are teachers asked in a college recommendation essay? Are there certain things or suggestions that colleges tell teachers to write on like explaining how you are based on personality or based on academics?? or is it a completely free-opinionated essay, in which the teacher can decide to write anything about you (academically or personality-wise)
What can be done to stop the obscenly powerful teachers unions? The collective bargaining power and political clout of teachers unions allow teachers to receive contracts that often run to more than 100 pages, and are filled with provisions for high wages, fantastic health benefits and retirement packages, generous time off, total job security, teacher transfer and assignment rights, restrictions on how teachers can be evaluated, restrictions on nonclassroom duties, and countless other rules that shackle the discretion of administrators. These contracts make the schools costly to run, heavily bureaucratic, and extremely difficult for administrators to manage. They also ensure that even the most incompetent teachers are virtually impossible to remove from the classroom. The public school system, as a result, is not even remotely the kind of institution one would design if the best interests of students were the guiding criterion. What can be done to fight these organisations? Fine. Pay for teachers may not be great (average 25,000 dollars a year to start, I believe), but so what? I wouldn't want a teacher that only cares about a paycheck. I made about the same as new teacher when I was in Iraq being shot at every other day, and I didn't complain.
How does a teachers pet dress? I'm trying out for a teachers pet in a school musical and I want to try out dressed as the part, but I don't have any wardrobe for a teachers pet, what should I wear? Any suggestions?
How should teachers use standards to improve their teaching? In our international school we are beginning to select standards. In social studies we have chosen to use AERO standards, which are based on NCSS standards. Now teachers have been asked to look at the benchmarks under each standard and assess if that benchmark is appropriate for each grade level. It is a hard task for teachers, especially when we are confused about how standards should be choosen. Should only one standard be used per unit or multiple standards? How do standards drive instruction? How do we make sure that standards are directly connected with assessments?
What is the most comfortable, visually appealing shoe for teachers? I am a teacher, and I am getting SO tired of being on my feet all the time, mainly because my feet hurt so much. I see a lot of teachers wearing crocs, sketchers, and so many other brands that are cute. What are the most comfortable shoes that I could go about purchasing? Thanks for your help...I'm at the point that I'm taking everyone's advice.
How many teachers are pushing one side of this issue? I am curious to find out if you are in school, how many of your teachers are pushing the theory that we are the primary cause of global warming. Also, are the teachers promoting debate, or are they simply telling you it is happening and it is our fault? Finally, if your class is debating the issue, in your opinion, which side has won the debate. If you are not in school, please refrain from answering.
