What kinds of teachers should I get my reccomendations for college from?

I am going to apply to a few schools and 2 require a letter of reccomendation. If I get two for one school can I have a teacher send the same two for another school or no? Also, can I get a teacher from freshman year to do it? All of the nice teachers I had were from freshamn or sophomore year so would that work? How would I ask them to write me a reccomendation?

  1. Get a teacher who you think will write you the best recommendation. It also doesn't hurt, if you belong to any organizations, to get that teacher too, even though you might not have had them for a class. My daughter was on the Mock Trial team for 4 years and the teacher who put that together wrote a nice recommendation letter to 2 schools she applied to. She was accepted at both. Good Luck!
  2. A teacher who will write you a personal letter rather than just changeing the name on the letter they use for everyone else, teachers that have doctorates, teachers that know you the best/you've been in class with the longest
  3. Teachers who gave you the highest marks probably have the most faith in you, are more willing to support you, and will write a more customized (as opposed to generic) letter of recommendation. A teacher who knows you well can highlight your unique abilities and strengths to set you apart from the others. A lettter from one English teacher and one Mathematics teachers is helpful because a strong foundation in reading, writing, and math will carry you through any major in college - that will make you look well-rounded academically. It is OK if your teachers write the same recommendations for different schools - just remember to change any specific information like the recipient, university name, etc. so that it doesn't look like you just sent out those letters in mass. Hope that helps :)
